The Problem with Every Other Ski Vise

If you’ve ever tried to tune your own skis at home, you know the frustration. Plastic clamps that flex under pressure. Side jaws that don’t fit wider freeride skis. The constant struggle with rubber bands to keep the brake out of the way. And the worst part: every single time you switch from base work to edge work, you have to re-clamp the entire ski.

We built the ski-table because no one else had solved this. Not Swix. Not Toko. Not Holmenkol. They all use the same basic clamp design that’s been around for thirty years.

Why Steel Changes Everything

A precise edge angle requires a vibration-free working surface. Period. Aluminum and plastic vises flex – not visibly, but enough to turn what should be a clean 88-degree edge into a wavy approximation.

17.6 pounds of solid steel solves this completely. The ski-table sits on your workbench like an anvil. No clamps needed, no shifting, no flex. You set it down, click your ski in, and work with the precision your tools allow – not the precision your vise restricts you to.

How Click-to-Fix Works

Instead of clamping the ski from the sides, the ski-table uses your binding as the mounting point. You step the ski into the vise the same way you’d step into the binding on snow. A satisfying click – the brake retracts automatically. Done.

From there, you can wax the base in horizontal position, then tilt the ski for edge work using the quick-release mechanism. All without ever taking the ski out of the vise. Full tuning in one setup.

01Click InStep the ski into the vise – binding clicks, brake retracts
02Wax BaseWork horizontally with full stability – no flex, no shift
03Tilt for EdgesQuick-release tilts ski for edge work – no re-clamping

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the ski-table heavier than other ski vises?

The 17.6 lbs of solid steel is intentional. The weight provides a rock-solid base that doesn’t need clamps or anchoring. Lightweight aluminum or plastic vises flex under pressure – steel doesn’t. This is the difference between a tool you fight with and a tool that disappears into your workflow.

Will it work with my wide freeride skis?

Yes. The ski-table has no width limitation because it doesn’t clamp the ski from the sides. It uses the binding as the mounting point, so any ski from 65mm slalom to 140mm freeride fits perfectly. The best ski vise for wide skis is one that doesn’t limit width at all.

Can I sharpen edges with the ski-table?

Absolutely – this is one of its biggest advantages. The stepless tilt mechanism with quick-release lets you switch from base work to edge work in seconds, without ever removing the ski from the vise. No re-clamping required.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is a ski vise and why do I need one?

A ski vise (also called a ski clamp or Skispanner in German) is a device that holds skis in a raised, stable position during waxing, edge work, and full ski maintenance. It clamps the ski between two jaws, freeing both hands for precise work. Without a vise, you must hold the ski with one hand — reducing quality and causing fatigue. A good ski vise delivers professional results comparable to a ski shop.

How does ski-table compare to Toko, Swix, and Holmenkol?

ski-table is handcrafted from solid steel in Bavaria, Germany — unlike the plastic and aluminum vises from Toko, Swix, and Holmenkol. This means superior clamping stability, no material fatigue, re-clamping without fully releasing the ski, integrated brake holder, and a truly lifetime product. The higher price pays off after just 1 to 2 seasons of saved ski service costs (typically 30–80 € per pair per season).

Is ski-table worth it for recreational skiers?

Yes — for anyone who owns at least one pair of skis. Professional ski service costs 30 to 80 euros per pair per season. With a ski-table vise, you do it yourself and save that cost every year. At 50 € saved per season, the investment pays off within 1 to 2 seasons — and then lasts a lifetime. For families with multiple pairs of skis, the payback is even faster.

What is the best ski vise?

For occasional waxing, a plastic vise from Toko (approx. 20–40 €) is sufficient. For regular waxing and edge work, an aluminum vise from Swix or Holmenkol (40–80 €) works well. For professional home tuning, race preparation, or anyone who wants a lifetime tool with zero compromises, the ski-table steel ski vise is the best choice.
